Satan is Asking for YOU!

Be the first
Believing that God is in absolute control over everything saves the Christian from a lot of theological or doctrinal pitfalls common to us today. A popular pitfall is the belief that Satan acts in the lives of believers without getting the go-ahead from God. Nonsense, I say! Behind everything the devil does to us stands God.
In Luke 22:31 Jesus says to Simon “Simon! Simon! Listen this: Satan has asked God to give him the chance to test you and all my disciples and treat all of you harshly –like when someone sifts flower through a strainer in a ruthless manner” (my translation!). Satan asks God for permission to test Jesus’ followers severely. Do you remember the story of Job?
I don’t know about you, but from all this I deduce that Satan has to get God’s permission before he can do anything to us. And if Satan does something to us, based on Romans 8:28 it’s because the good, gracious, all loving God wills that he does so for our good! (Romans 8:28 reads “And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.”) Certainly, Satan might have plans for us but if they are not approved by God, if he doesn’t give Satan’s plans his stamp of approval, he cannot touch us! And if he touches us, it is for our good!
So I don’t go around fighting with Satan, “taking back what he has stolen from me” - as if he acts independently. Rather, I pray, “Lord, give me eyes to see the good you have in mind for me in this trial, in this testing, in this heartache, in this dispossessed state.”
I would further like to challenge the idea that suffering is not for our good – only prosperity is. But that’s for another time.
