Jermaine Edwards
Jermaine Edwards was born on July 22, 1980 in the parish of St. Andrew, Jamaica to Bishop Rowan Edwards and Pastor Janet Edwards. He is the second of three (3) children with older brother Rohan and baby sister Petagay. They later migrated to the Spanish Town area where his father began his own ministry; Lighthouse Assembly Church. Jermaine was deeply involved in the ministry from a tender age- playing the keyboard, always in church and on the streets whenever the church was hosting a crusade. He is highly talented in the area of Music. He sings, composes and plays most musical instruments but his favourite is the keyboard. In his teens he entered the Youth for Christ competition in the category of solo musical arrangement and was banned because of his surpassed talent. His singing is somewhat unique and has developed to a higher level over the years with the out-pouring of God’s anointing on his life. He became a praise and worship leader, choir director and was later ordained as Minister of Music. With these gifts that God had blessed him with, he was contracted as choir director for many different churches across Jamaica and has also been a voice trainer and Music teacher in the preparatory schools and to many individuals.
In the year 2005, he released his first album entitled:Island Worship I – A Jamaican Experience. He released his second album in 2007 entitled: Island Worship II – A Closer Walk featuring many local Gospel artistes and Gospel radio personalities. These two albums have touched the lives of many in different ways both locally and internationally. Jermaine has travelled to England, the Turks & Caicos Islands and eight (8) states in America ministering the word of God in songs. He has shared stages with a number of world renowned Gospel artistes and choirs such as Kirk Franklin, Papa San, Marvia Providence and Brooklyn Tabernacle choir just to name a few.
Through ministering in songs Jermaine has come to realize that God has other callings on his life. There is a strong passion that he has about the youths. He strongly believes that the youths of today really need Jesus more than anything and there is a way of reaching them that should have a great impact on their lives where that is concerned. With this in mind, he started a Christian club in Portmore, Jamaica named Club Christendom in the year 2005. The youths came out in their numbers and felt free to express themselves in dance, song, drama and many other talents giving the glory and honour to God. The most important aspect of the club was the worship segment that Jermaine had placed special emphasis on. He is the selector/DJ of this segment and as he does his selections the youths were seen prostrating before God. Many were saved, delivered and set free through this club ministry. Currently, because of the location, the Club is on a break until further notice. Another project that Jermaine has in mind for the youths is getting a truck to be used as a stage with hydraulic sides, loud speakers and a live band. This would be used to go into the schools for the purpose of conducting devotions and interactions with the youths.
In December 2007 Jermaine hosted his first concert entitled: Spanish Town Gospel Fest. This event was deemed as a means of celebration in the Spanish Town area as crime and violence had rocked the old capital in recent months resulting in many deaths and the town being partially locked down. Many local renowned Gospel artistes were featured and people came out in their numbers to celebrate in the presence of God.
Minister Jermaine Edwards is a producer, recording engineer and the CEO of Island Worship Recording Company and has worked on many projects both locally and internationally. Presently, he is working on his third album: Island Worship III – Destiny to be released in November 2008. This album is highly anticipated focusing mainly on the aspect of the destiny that God has prepared for our lives. His aim is solely to walk in Jesus’ will and that his steps are ordered by Him only.
