I Wonder Who they are?
You ever wondered why we are not like people we read about in biographies? Like I was reading a biographical work on the life of one of the most acclaimed Christian missionaries of all time, Hudson Taylor, and it just occurred to me how different he was in his thinking from me.
Missions
Look at this, he felt called to be a missionary – to China and was determined to go, and so he decided to start preparing from home for when he would reach China. But not only did he start preaching, he knew the circumstances would be meager and so he started to live as cheaply as he could – giving away as much as sixty percent of what he was earning.
Prayer for the Payer
Hudson wanted to “build” his faith as well for the mission and so when his Employer Robert Hardey asked him to remind him whenever his salary was due, Hudson decided that he would never speak to his boss about his pay but would instead pray earnestly to God to remind Hardey. A nuff time him reach inna some serious situation, but amazingly (or not) he always seemed to get his money in the nick of time. The man went on to start the China Inland Mission (in 1865), which today is known as OMF International and which has been one of the greatest forces for the spread Gospel in the world.
Guess Why
Now where is that type of daring initiative in my life, and the life of my Christian friends today. I think one of the greatest reasons why we don’t have many exciting and breathtaking stories of our exploits for God is that we are not really caught up in, and awed by and compelled by the love of God and his glory!
I Wonder
I wonder what will be written of the lives of young people in this generation, I mean the “heroes of faith” as they will be called? I wonder what the heroes of the Christian faith who God will surely raise up out of this generation – I wonder what things they are doing right now, how many of them are secretly doing amazing and noteworthy things like Hudson Taylor!
I pray that you and I may be among the people of this generation who by patience, prayer, discipline and faith experience the Glory of God and as a result of that encounter accomplish great and unforgettable things for God.
