I really shouldn’t be the person to Write this post, because anybody who knows me, knows that I am verrrrry far from the standard I am about to advocate…but if the aim of our lives is excellence it means we will always be standing to talk about things that we are so very far from perfectly attaining ourselves and so i beg you to hear me out.
A Lesson about Light
Having said that. Have you every considered the great responsibility in Jesus’ command:  ‘You are the Light of the world”
I was in a Sunday School class when this was being discussed and the teacher was challenging us as young people on one of the most overlooked qualities of light, but which when we consider it, is without a doubt one of its most valuable features.
Consistency!
What use is light to anybody if it keeps flickering on and off every couple seconds? Do you know…you can even try it at home yourself; it is far easier, much more reasonable to read or work with dim or bad light which is constant than with the brightest bulb that beams on and off every second.
Pretend Your In the Movies…But in Real life
Imagine you were in a bobby trapped cave…like in the movies. Its pitch black, full of bobby traps – every step you make will either lead you to safety or send you screaming through the floor into a pit snakes…mad ting! You have a lantern but check this: you can’t tell when the light will be on or off. Everything in the cave is designed to trick you and every step you make could be your last! (I drink a lot of caffeine) Now imagine as you step out the light just goes off!!
It wouldda been better you never had any light from the start and so have no hope of escaping the place than to have a vision of freedom but still be trapped because the very thing that is suppose to lead you to safety just can’t be trusted!
I’m sure you can apply that for yourself…to yourself.
A Messed Up World Needs Betta Light Bulbs
This world is so messed up and people gain (at least their suppose to), a vision of a better more worthwhile and sensible life in us. They suppose to get a vision of life with God…which is real freedom, as they look at our lives. But wouldn’t it be terrible if they see God and then the devil and hope and then despair, light and then darkness!!
We are the light of the world and that’s great that today we can show people kindness, have big Events, do a random act of good deed, smile because something good is going on and in those moments give the world a hope, a vision that just maybe there is a way to escape the darkness. But we haffi be consistent. Consistent in our smiles, consistent in our witnessing, our kindness, our good deeds, our attitude, our patience, gentleness, meekness, long-suffering- SELF-CONTROL, sexual purity, craving for God, God-centeredness, passions for justice and all the other grand and glorious things that flow from the lives of people deeply plugged into the source of all true light.
We can’t keep on being up today and down tomorrow. It throws the world off and it means that something is WRONG with us. Many of us are only consistent in inconsistency- PEOPLE JUST NEVER KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT!
Not Adrenaline but Coronary Christians
We must not be people of adrenaline! Rushing ahead with mad speed and excitement every once in a while. Instead we should be ‘Coronary people’. Like the heart-beat. Everyday, every minute, every second, hardly noticed, hardly remembered or thanked but POWERFUL beyond the description of words – accomplishing more lastingly than the adrenaline ever could in its five minutes of brilliant fervor. (that last thought from William Wilberforce).
