Its hard to say. I am pleased with the PM’s responses in his BBC interview, especially bc I am getting increasingly worried about homosexuality in Jamaica. Many international bodies consider us backward with this law, but this is something I am glad we hold to, though it is not as upheld as we’d like. He could have given an answer to suit both us J’cans and the international bodies but he didnt, and for that he gets ratings here. I’m not quite sure how to think of that cartoon though, I’m not pro BOOM BYE BYE, but its a sin, and it should not- like any other sin- be condoned.
I did see this cartoon today, at first I found it funny I will be honest. However, interestingly enough I was listening to a message on how to minister to homo-sexuals. Let me share the insight I gained, the speaker said the mistake Christians often make is to deal with a homosexual in a condescending manner. Being Jamaican, I can tend to identify with that. He went on to explain that homosexuality is only a branch coming from the root of the sinful nature. Looking at our culture we can be so vigilant against homo-sexuality, but heterosexual immorality is tolerated. Not to say we should condone homo-sexuality by any means, praise God that it is illegal, however, the solution is not to be homo-phobic but to be SIN-O-PHOBIC!! Always, speaking the truth in LOVE!
That’s exactly what I thought, Andrew! Well, he’s charged with the responsibility to speak on behalf of Jamaicans - the majority of whom are anti-homosexuality. (Oh that we were as determined to bring murderers to justice!)
I don’t think this cartoon is fair: it gives the impression the PM espouses the brutal treatment of homosexuals – something he denies (as should every Christian).
We should not allow the “West” to make us feel ridiculous, old-fashioned and corny though.
