A CULTURE OF FOOLS
I don’t think I really need to describe the society we now live in…violence is out on the streets, in our homes and in our schools. I can’t even Write this without getting a heavy heart. I’m not from the inner-city where we hear of gun wars and police killings and yet I could list too many people I’ve known that have died or been affected by violence.
So, the most popular talk these days and the most common prayer subject is the violence. It should not take us by surprise though.
Our nation has nurtured a culture of fools. Straight Bible talk, when we read Proverbs we notice that Solomon identified several types of fools: the proud, the immoral, the ignorant and the stubborn. I’ll need help to list them, but I am sure that quite a few of our most popular songs promote just about every type of fool.
Who can deny the fact that Jamaican people proudly disrespect authority and love immorality? We give props to di shottas, nuh true? And di gyalist dem …nuff respect. Di women are neck and neck wid di men, vying for whatever is most indecent. A lifestyle of materialism is so ingrained that people apologize for not having the latest cell phone, “Sorry, ma phone fell..I just using this one for now”.
Jamaicans tend to be proudly violent and wicked, I don’t need to explain to anyone what happens when you ‘bad drive’ a man on the road – you and ten generations after you are cursed plus your mother. ‘Life and death is in the power of the tongue’, Jamaicans really seem to understand that one with the vigour that they put into every curse word.
My point is that although crime, violence and injustice are major issues they stem from something else –something that KingFish can’t solve. What we have in Jamaica is a destructive culture; a culture that loves and breeds foolishness and foolish behaviour. What you sow is what you reap…look at what Ezekiel prophesied when he spoke to the children of Israel oppressed in Babylon “The people’s wickedness and pride have blossomed to full flower. Their violence has grown into a rod that will beat them for their wickedness.” The people’s own bad behaviour became a form of judgement and punishment on themselves. In the same way Jamaica’s own pride and violence is giving us one big beating.
It’s good that the government is trying to come up with new crime fighting strategies, but we must bear in mind that the fight is also against a heart and mind that is desperately wicked and apparently foolish. Unless our hearts and minds are renewed through Jesus Christ there can be no meaningful change. It really is amazing how empty the calls and marches for peace seem to be. Which gun man is going to leave his gun just because Adidjah Palmer (Vybz Kartel) recorded an ad for peace in the ghetto?
If we fools can counsel each other, then let us see what happens but I believe good counsel comes from the word of God. So in conclusion let us look at some scripture,
Blessed is the man who finds understanding the man who gains wisdom. [Proverbs 3:13].
Wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure, then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy, and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness James 3:17

This is really cool Anna! Many ppl may have shrunk away from calling the fools, what they are, but indeed we are in a culture of this, and it is soo bad!

Standing Ovation for you and that speech! The voice will rise from empowered minds they say… The culture of fools seems to be plaguing the world right now, but thats no suprise cause 2 Corintians 4:4 has said that the God of this world has blinded the minds of men. We as christians need to help them to see, thats why i love when christians speak their minds in any and every forum they can…. Love the article, looking forward to more stuff from you… Bless my youth…

hey Anna, real words of wisdom, compare to the wisdom of the streets. Christians cant afford to be attach to the world in any way cuz though we might try to be different, we would still have a resemblance, which makes us no different.
Word to really consider rather than just read!!
Bless!!!
