Reading the Gospels
Before I post an article on reading the Gospels, I would like to know how unu read dem. Do you try to copy and paste information for all the gospels so as to create a coherent whole? That is, do you read parallel texts and try fitting all the information together? How do you handle things which appear to be contradictions -aka “apparent contradictions”? Do you find reading the Gospels an “easy cheezy” task? etc etc…
Do let me know your concerns, and I’ll do my best to tailor the article to meet these concerns.

I guess we just read it straight through most times.. so if we reading Matthew, we just read Matthew till it dun, then start Mark, then Luke etc. I’ve also tried that method of comparing parallel texts which is very productive…
I guess the thing is most times we would say, the goal is to read off Matthew, so when we start reading it and we realize that there are a number of parallel passages along the way, we might begin to think that its goin to take us longer than anticipated

Stephen, it could be that you’ve answered for a fair number of Caribbean Christian youths… In fact, I believe the same is done by not a few persons who make an effort to read portions of or the entire Bible in a year.
For sure, I believe in reading the Scriptures for recreational purposes, i.e reading Scripture simply for the enjoyment of reading about God, His dealings with creation, His plans, etc; but even that is different from when, as your so rightly pointed out, “we just read … till it dun.”
Thank you very much, friend.
Rock on!

For me I think I have this thing about having to start from the top. I dont really like starting from the middle or the back or so forth. If I do I make sure to go to the story from when it really started, get facts straight and so forth. So il start from Matthew, read it in its entirty then attempt 2 do the same for the others, comparing them and so forth.

Although not Caribbean, I spend a great deal of time in central Jamaica. I have never used a ‘chronological’ bible and find parallel bibles hard to follow as it can be distrating going over and over.
Some method to read all pertaining to the same materials, points at the same time would be very useful. I have used OneNote to cut and paste so I can easily highlight and compare translations. This is helpful. Again, Thank you for the information you are collecting and the work you are doing!
