Life and death is in the power of the tongue and those who eat it love its fruit. Proverbs18:21

people have the freedom to do watever they please…anything they want to do they can do it. However we all know that total freedom brings total insecurity. If everyone was allowed to do any and everything they felt to do… many of us would become prisoners in our own homes for fear of what cud be expected outside.
Freedom of speech is a touchy issue especially in a society like ours where the freedom to express our ‘culture’ has become so sacrosanct. Nevertheless i posit that for us to create a more constructive, a more respectful and a more God-fearing, God-Honoring and dare i say God-glorifying culture then the absolute right to say whatever you want say, wherever you want to say should be curtailed. I believe that that the crass and disrespectful lyrics that are allowed on air should never have graced the public airwaves. You may disagree with me becuz a man mus can voice him Views.
Would you agree wiht me that a child deserves the right to grow up in an environment that respects his innocence? does a child have a right to grow up in a positive and nurturing environment? Would we want to instill in Jamaican children more of the value for life than the donman gunman gyalist mentality? Does a child have the right to hear words that incite life and not death?
Yu kno, no right is absolute. One right is always limited by another and curbed by law. Fo instance my right to choose to drive a 110 mile per hour down the road i s limited by your right to safety and life…THEREFORE, the law curbs my right by enforcing a speedlimit of 50 miles per hour. Now my right to CHOICE has been limited by your right to LIFE. i want to posit that my right to EXPRESSION must be limited by the right of members of society and particularly children to a SAFE social environment - where they are not being attacked by negative lyrics that degrade women and that promote a violent culture.
Freedom of Speech should not be absolute. and bear in mind that if it was you cud forget about sueing ppl for defamation of character and all that jazz.

So i wud recommend that songs be rated and deemed suitable or unsuitable for public airing according to their lyrical content. If you wan tto hear beenie man vybez or whoever voice their artistry in unrestrained expression then go ahead any buy the album and turn on your own stereo and have a party with your like minded friends.

Freedom of Speech is not an Absolute right, but it is a right. Absolute means complete and total. Remember nothing can be absolute, for it will cause destruction. Look at Adolf Hittler, he has an absolute right, so he took away freedom of speech from his country, thus he cause a nation to fall. Freedom of Speech is the right to print or say what you want. If everybody has an absolute right for Freedom of speech it will scandalize peolpe in everyway. That is why Government set out Lible and Slander Laws. Lible means Printing false Statement about someone. So one han an absolute right of freedom of speech.
Look at it God didn’t use Absolutism as a style of leadership. He give us the right to choose right or wrong, good or evil.
So Freedom of Speech should not be an absolute right, but a right with responsiblity. which should be taught to us.

my school opposed the moot the other day and won…and this is wat we argued:
    (1) Firstly, no right is absolute (that is without restrictions etc)…not even the right to life is absolute- capital punishment, abortion (though we disagree…but when the mother’s life needs to be saved [arguable])
    (2) freedom of speech cannot be absolute because we cannot leave it up to the whim and fancy of anyone to decide what they want to say. FOS should be free to the point that it does not interfere with another person’s right to a good reputation- look at libel, slander, defamation. You must remember that ‘my right to swing my fist ends where your nose begins’ i can speak what i want but it MUST be restricted so i dont infringe on your right
    (3) should advertisements be allowed to say what they want to say, lie to the public and put at risk the lives of other ppl who take there ads as Gospel? in 2006 i think, more than 30% of ads on american tv had to be removed for their misleading nature.
    (4) speech should be restricted in certain places where public order is to be kept…like it is natural for a man to express his undying love for a woman…but what if he just got up and decided to do it in court???? He would be held in contempt of court…should his speech not be restricted based on the fact that public order needs to be kept….
    now…what think ye?
    blessings
