Has Glory Music Lost their Minds?

Are Gospel reggae artistes ministers of the Gospel? This is a very serious question that needs significant contemplation, before you go any further in this article
Most Gospel reggae artistes that I know will say YES! Loudly too! They do not consider themselves mere entertainers, or performers. They call it ministry! Read every single interview of a Gospel reggae artiste and you’ll hear them talk about their activities as “ministry”.
And doesn’t the book of James say that “not many should presume to be teachers” as those who are leaders and teachers of God’s people will be judge more severely than us commoners?
Imagine my horror therefore, knowing the high premium that God in scripture places on ‘ministry’ and the severe consequences He has in store for those who pervert it, when at Genesis 2008 I heard it announced that the winner of some talent competition will be given a recording contract with Glory Music!!

Now I know I must have heard incorrectly. I am fully willing to accept every correction on this, because I know I must be uninformed or misinformed here. What I heard can’t at all be true. (And note this has nothing to do with the winners personally, this is aimed a principle that just seem very unwise –)
It can’t be that a reputed “Christian” Music company could really decide to empower an individual to become a “minister of the Gospel,” and a vehicle of incalculable global influence, not based on their manifest and undeniable commitment to God, desire to win sinners or love for the bride of Christ, but because dem can DJ.
It can’t be that a well meaning Christian Music company would endanger the eternal soul of a person not mature enough to become a minister with such a profound influence and the innumerable souls he/she may in time impact, for the sake of publicity and profit.

Well said. I am not aware of the selection process and i’m sure the organizers must have put considerable consideration into ensuring the winners are spiritually sound and grounded in the word. If thats not the case, well we would definitely be setting up ourselves to be targeted by the devil. There are lots of arguments for and against this, however let us Discuss this with our reasoning grounded in the word.

Your Views may be swayed. Many Gospel artistes just rise up now. No one knows their pastor, no one knows their lifestyle and no one knows anything, at all. Yet we buy several albums from these random ‘ministers’.Glory Music hopefully has enogh sense to gear the person on the right track. I guess they figured if its a platform to minister that only minsters would enter, forgive them of their naivety. We as christians are very naive, because all an individual needs is good connections and they can drop a Gospel cd, no matter what their lives look like. Don’t be so harsh on Gospel reggae too, people are messed up in all genres on Gospel, so be careful not to hit out on one, cause good and bad are all over.

You hear how we’re all talking, “we sure they did this”, “we expect they did that” - we as Christians so quickly give others the benefit of the doubt (which is great, displaying a true love 1 Corinthians 13), but we must also be critical for the sake of the many who will suffer the consequences if ‘what we expected’ was never ever done.
NOBODY AT FIWIVOICE>COM IS GIVING UP ON Gospel REGGAE, but I would say it anywhere the standard must be raised. The bar must be elevated and if it makes us unpopular we must be very hard on issues like these FOR THE SAKE OF THOSE WHO WILL SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES when we gone!
Too much secret artiste a “buss” we nuh know if them say Allah or Buddah, dem nuh have nuh church fellowship…a wha we feel like.
The devil masquerades as an angel of light -
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly then are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits” - Christ said that…we can not be too careful

Oh yeah, you know something -
If this is the reality, that Gospel reggae is a “artiste” thing and not a “minister” thing….then it is going to lose its prominence and place of influence even among its loyals…those who are serious about Gospel Reggae bringing glory to God must be vigilant to protect it man…see me

This is really interesting to read, I believe that if God give you a talent you need to put it down, surrender it totally before He raises you up to use that talent. Musical gifts are very very serious, it has to be surrendered to the Lord for your own benifit, the minute it becomes all about your self and you use that gift for your self you end up like Witney Housten, Michael Jackson, etc etc Some may have the gift to minister to God with, singing praises to him, some may have it to minister to the saints, singing entertaining and encouraging, and some may have it to reach out to and show love to the lost world. All ministers but all holding the responsibility to mek sure they surrender thier gift to the Lord, taking time out to sit at Jesus feet etc. I would encourage anyone with the gift to use it, shine the light brightly BUT thier individual relationship with the Lord MUST come first before any form of ministry, then thier ministry to thier own family then the mission field.

reali interestin…speak d truth Andrew…u’r so right…and not to step on anyone’s parade u r sooo right…from my experience these upcoming ‘talent’ concerts only doing jus that..looking for ‘talent’..they never lied enuh…they werent lookin for spiritually sound individuals or reaal christians who are members of bible believin churches..hmmm makes me wonder enuh…with these I always here about them when they start and when they finish…I have no idea what goes on between besides the whole let them sing/rap/dj in front of judges who select them based on content/originality/performance…lol…no seriously…I must check this out…
Tru words indeed…jus like Pastor Washer- Matt 7:13-28…”Beware of false prophets…” I was shocked to learn that a few prominent Gospel ministers were not members of churches much less attending one regularly…I dont know what ur reaction would have been…the bible did say one should not neglect the fellowship of the brethren…
but my brethren… IThess5:21 “Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil.”

You know this article connects with the exact thought that I had when I first saw it in the newspaper. I was like what “next Gospel sensation”. I started to question if the promoters of Genesis seem to think that the Gospel is about popularity or just sounding good, I once thought it was about ministry, and the power of God manifesting on an individual. “NEXT Gospel SENSATION”, that part still has me, though the event done and gone, is this a fitting example of Jesus Christ and the disciples, who based on the word, basically just spread the Gospel without any desire to be a sensation.
I remember being at a concert and Omari was singing, and he stopped to say something very powerful. People should not look at them as stars, or idols at the extreme, as they are just servants, matter a fact he said exactly, “wi a jus some likkle servant bwoy”.
It would be sad if the Gospel has just become something about sensationalism, and not “The Gospel“

It is still called the Gospel Music Industry right? Basically, it is a business of supply and demand, and there is a demand for this type of Music. Glory Music is simply trying to unearth new talent(s) to meet the need of the consumers. Now as for the motive of the entrants as to why they want to be the new Gospel sensation, only King Jesus knows that.
Differently still, we need to bear in mind that there are many gospels, but only one true Gospel of Jesus Christ
…..and no guy can change that. So mek wi draw closer to Jesus Christ and His word….and abide there.
