Jodi-Kaye Smith
At the age of 10 I invited Jesus into my heart and with the help of my parents and several other people I grew to learn more about Him. It wasn’t until the age of 15 however, that I started to know Jesus not only as my Savior but also as Lord.
Upon receiving average grades at CXC, I was a bit disappointed. At the beginning of Lower 6 I prayed, “Lord, my schoolwork is Yours and I’d like to glorify You with it, so I ask for Your help to do my best at it.” Many prayers and a lot of hard work later, I received 4 distinctions in both my Lower 6 and Upper 6 CAPE and ‘A’ Level Exams. Moreover, in Upper 6, I also received the top grade in the island for Economics and 3rd in the island for Mathematics. Only Jesus can turn the ordinary into extraordinary!
“Every Morning I Woke up Crying”
It was after this experience that I started to turn over the various aspects of my life to the Lord. Jesus has done some amazing things in my life but there have also been some rough times. The most vivid one that comes to mind was when I suffered from depression when I was 19. Every morning I woke up crying. I felt as if nothing I did was ever good enough. At one point I was crossing a road and wished a car would just come and hit me down. I had no joy for living.
A few days before my 20th birthday, my mother asked me what I wanted for my birthday and I simply shrugged my shoulders. I then thought, “Jesus, I’d like a birthday present from You please – something special.” My birthday started with me studying for an exam but I couldn’t concentrate. I prayed for His help because I couldn’t fight any longer and though it was very hard, I told God that I trusted Him and that I was waiting expectantly for my present. I then felt drained and tired so I went to my room and fell asleep. Except, I wasn’t fully sleeping.
‘Wow God, You’re young!’
I was unusually half-awake and half-asleep and then (while still half-awake and half-asleep as if I was dreaming but it was so vivid and clear I knew it wasn’t a dream), I saw a young man dressed in white who was glowing. He leaned over to me and whispered. “It is a test. It is a test”. I jumped out of my sleep and the first thought I had was ‘Wow God, You’re young!’ I then realized that I had just seen an angel who gave me a sort of ‘heads-up’. I couldn’t stop thanking God for my birthday present! I don’t know how God did it but I know that in that moment He restored me and fully delivered me from depression and has continued to prove Himself over and over to be faithful.
God is very capable of doing the impossible. My life is proof. In addition to what I’ve already mentioned, He has changed an Upper 2nd Class Honors to a First Class Honors approximately 4 days before graduation, given me a full-time, permanent job on the first and only application I sent out and He has given me an opportunity to start my own business.
God has orchestrated things in my life that I either thought unattainable or never even imagined in my dreams. God is a BIG God…so why not dream big? He has a purpose for each and every one of us. He has given us gifts to use for His glory. God can be trusted – He’s really smart and He knows what He’s doing. Trust God. Give your life to Him. Trust me, you will never be the same again.

Thanks for sharing. I have been encouraged to trust God with my academics. Continue to proclaim your testimonies! The word of God encourages us to pause and put up our testimonies as a BANNER. We can sometimes even forget about what God has done, thats really a shame. Bless up my sister.
