Bye Bye 2006, Here’s to 2007
Hey there, Happy New Year! 2006 is done and 2007 is here already. The time went by so fast that I can barely remember some of the things that took place last year, but I’m going to try to recall some of the moments of 2k6. For those that I didn’t mention please leave them in comments at the end. I know that there are a whole lot more than what I have listed below.
Lots of things happened in 2006, it was a good year for fiwivoice.com. We got 1 year older in February, saw tremendous growth, and right now, there’s no stopping us! Over the year we featured more of your favourite artists and Events. We were at the Jesus Party launch of the Yow 4 album, we were at the St. Andrew High Xtreme Impact Tour and we did a whole lot more. In ’07 we are going to do crazy things like give you X-clusive info on the Xtreme Impact tour, more info on your favourite people places and things, and easier access to events.
In the Gospel Reggae/Dancehall industry last year, I recall that Jason Mighty proposed on stage at Recharge 2k6; yeah that was a shocker. The now the highly promoted el elyon T-shirt line was launched and Prodigal son/Bless made a song for gully people (wow, how sweet) and now they’ve turned Genesis into a triplefest!
Christopher martin won the Digicel Rising Stars competition and did a number of collaborations with our Gospel artists, like Kevin Downswell and Moses. Kerron Ennis released her debut album thanks to the folks at Marjohn muzik, and Jai split from the Katalys Crew.
The highly anticipated fun in the son was held once more and Dj Nicholas was dubbed Minister Nicholas. Papa San came and left his new album with us, and Goddy Goddy came back HoTT HoTT from his operation to trample Satan (praise be to God). Did I mention the Jesus party weh the police come lock down?!
Some of the albums released this year includes:
- Moses
- Yow 4
- Spirit Scription
- Papa San
Some of the hottest Events this year were;
- Jesus Party: always drawing a huge crowd
- Recharge: definite summer event, and it’s normally free so that’s a plus
- Fun in the Son: one of the better quality spring break Events organized by the JTB and others
And of course social community sites definitely rocked in ‘06. If you haven’t been able to keep up to date with technology, you should visit these sites before you get left behind.
- Myspace: networking, people, Music, artists, friends
- Digg / Reddit: find popular Articles that people Digg [rate]
- Hi5: similar to myspace, only that more caribbean people seem to be on Hi5 and people probaly find this easier to use
- You tube: free videos, you’re gonna love this
- Flickr: unlimited pictures
- there’s a whole lot more that i dont even have time to mention.
What to expect for ‘07
January: Genesis - I went to the Kingston leg and it was great. The line up could have probably been more organized, with quicker band changes, less unnecessary talking, more professionalism, and probably a lower price to get more people to come. Apart from that it was great, artists were great, the venue, and the crowd.
February : Prodigy & Crissy D- to tie the knot!
Summer: Not sure yet
Some time next year: Jason Mighty, Kevin Downswell, Gallimore?, Prodigy, Dj Nicholas? Jermaine Edwards to release album.
There might probably the release of yow 5 as well, in a somewhat different format with non-stop mixing of some old tracks and probably new. You know like the mixes that you always hear in the taxis where one song just goes right into to next? Yeah something like that!
Oh, and Sherwin Gardner should be dropping his Elevation album some time this year.
Stay tuned guys. ‘07 promises much more and there are a whole lot of things in store. Continue to trust God and he will direct your plans. Let us keep committed this year and decide stand up for God cost it what it will. We nah bow! Welcome 2007.
Did I forget anything from ‘06 let me know!
