Jesus Walks with me

Fiwivoice.com launches it newest feature - Jesus walks with me! A new avenue for young people to share their faith and encourage others.

We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.
(1 John 1:3) – The Holy Bible

Why We Testify

Relevance is the greatest need in our faith. Christianity is like a priceless jewel wasted, in the hands of those whose personal lives it has not impacted.
When Christians testify, they stand up and proclaim to the world that they “believe”; that’s a brave thing. In this time when everybody believes what they want and so little think they are obligated to God, the personal statement of belief, of every Christian is a power witness that God is never short of followers.

Everybody has a Testimony
You may have shot four security guards in a bank robbery or was about to take your life when suddenly you saw a bright light, and heard a voice saying, “Stop! - I’m Jesus.” or Not.
Without the flashing lights and a great plot that you could sell as a motion picture, you still have a powerful Testimony. Every Christian’s Testimony is powerful…for God said ‘Blessed are the eyes that see what you see…for many wanted to see but never saw.’ (Luke) Your Testimony is just you saying, I believe God’s word that I was a sinner, and at some point I decided he alone would direct my life- “I was a terrible person”, or “I was a perfect and upstanding human being,” but in all that I recognized I was naturally separated from God, and now I am committed to serving him with all my heart, all my soul, all my mind and strength.
It So SIMPLE! Tell HOW,WHERE,WHEN,WHY you gave your heart in full commitment to Jesus, and how it has impacted your life.

You Just Gotta Testify!
What a privilege! Who’s God to you? When we’re in love we can’t stop blabbing…isn’t God your first love?
If someone’s willing to read your Testimony, you should be compelled by the love you have for Christ to share it; say like the apostles ‘I cannot help but speaking about what I have seen and heard’ (Ac 4:20).
Somebody needs to know this faith is real. No church building’s superstructure is real enough, only the word of life, hot-blooded, sin-infested human beings, who know against all odds the truth of God.

…in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have… (1 Peter 3:15)

The practice of giving “personal testimonies” is widely accepted within the Christian Church and remains unquestioned as it has always been the practice of the Church. Interestingly, however, the way giving a “Testimony” is done today is based on the pragmatism of the 19th century Arminianism evangelist Charles Finney. Until Finney in the early 1800s, no one in the history of the Christian Church practiced “personal testimonies” in worship services. (The same is true of “altar calls.”). Finney measured the value of methods based on how well they produced results, and according to him and many since, these do.

I’m not wholly against this practice - Paul gives his Testimony in Acts 22:1-16 and 26:9-23, and so did John (1John 1:1-3); however, there are some dangers. The main danger is that the practice is very subjective, and, consequently, the Gospel itself has got to be filtered through fallible human personal religious experience. In many instances, unbelievers see these related personal experiences as the norm. Hence, many in Jamaica tell me they are waiting for God to speak to them directly – some even expect flashing lights.

I’ve heard many testimonies and most of the time, the testimonies which are requested at gatherings are very the more dramatic ones - such as a former gambler telling of how God appeared to him after playing an big game and of how that led him directed him to repentance and faith in Christ. The truth, however, is that most of those who are brought to faith in Christ are brought without having experienced extraordinary spiritual encounters.

“Personal testimonies” of God’s grace, I believe, are more helpful to believers as they can confirm the biblical message which they already believe, be a source of encouragement, build them up in the faith, and make them more aware of God’s grace in the life of the person testifying. Personal testimonies will never bring anyone to faith in Christ. Nonetheless, it makes them think because whilst many of them deny, ignore, and even reject the Scriptures, they will think twice before they deny, ignore, reject your account of what God has done in your life.

A Christian’s Testimony should always point beyond itself to the objective and authoritative biblical revelation. Preaching must be based on facts preserved by God. Modern day testimonies have no authority than the testifier him/herself, and the Testimony can always be contradicted by Scripture. Preaching, on the other hand, has the authority of God and can never be contradicted. That is why the Bible is full of warnings not to add or subtract from what God has revealed though His prophets and apostles. That is why preaching the entire Bible and not our likes/dislikes, personal opinions, etc is vital.
“For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. How are they to call on one they have not believed in? And how are they to believe in one they have not heard of? And how are they to hear without someone preaching to them? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How timely is the arrival of those who proclaim the good new” (Rom.10:13-15).
