Meet Kevin Downswell. I was raised on Maxfield Avenue, Waterhouse and Central Village. I’ve been at the worst but here is God taking the worst and exalting it, taking the humble and exalting it. My message is my life, you can never be too low for God! You can never be too poor for God and you can never do too much that God can stop loving you.

FiwiVoice: How long have you been in Gospel Music?

Kevin Downswell: About 10 to 13 years. I begun singing at simple house concerts then at church concerts. I was apart of a small group that they called the Faith Mini Band for my church and that group mi tell yuh seh man- was crazy! So that kind of given me a little more external confidence to see other people faces, and confidently sing before them.

FV: So how long have you been a Christian?

KD: Twelve years now December the 10th will be my 13th year now I’m a child of God.

FV: And is this your full time occupation now?

KD: Yeah this is my full time ministry right now , I wouldn’t say occupation because I don’t want to make it seem as if this is where I earn my money from. This is what God has called me to do right now.

FV: So you don’t think you should earn money from this?

KD: Yeah man definitely but to say this is what I look to this for money, no, but I believe God blesses me. It’s two different thing, - Paul said in 1st Corinthians chapter 9 that he doesn’t see his ministries as an occupation because it’s not something that he chose. God choose it for him so if God choose it then he will provide along with it.

FV: So you plan to go fully into the business- like everything that you do?

KD: I plan to go as far as possible. I don’t plan to just sing, I’m a speaker, I plan to preach I do a lot of things that come under the ministry and building my own “this”, my own “that”, having my own enterprise. One thing I love to do as I love to bless children, so who know maybe a child care whatever.

FV: So what are your plans for the future, as it relates to Music?

KD: I just release five singles; (1st track) Stand, (2nd track) When He Comes, (3rd track) Nothing Just Happens, (4th track) Joy and (5th track) God’s Children with Christopher Martin.

FV: Which track is your favorite one?

KD: I don’t even know because everyday I choose one over the other- but I would say Nothing Just Happens. It has really blessed me the most because it is a Testimony of my life and it says “nothing just happens, nothing happens by chance everything is ordained.”

KD: Right now I’m planning to drop my album in mid summer. Right now I’m leaving to do a tour in Canada for a month to promote the pre-release of my album. So I’ll be back by the end of July having finishing the album, doing a lot of thing. I know I’ll be doing a lot of tour for the rest of the year. For the late future though like next year, I’m planning to enlarge my ministry because I believe God has some big things in store for me, I believe that God has called me to be a speaker, I’m already an ordained evangelist for my church

FV: What church is that?

KD: Faith Mission Assembly that is of Maxfield Avenue, so I’m already an ordained evangelist glory to God! So it come the right time. So I speak, and I believe that God, number one I want to have my own production company

FV: What do you plan on calling it?

KD: I wanted to call it Judah, (because my nickname is Judah), but I’ve realized that a lot of persons start naming their ministries “Judah this” and “Judah that” so I might just call it Kevin Downsell. Since my name is more unique than Judah. So that’s my next option, it might change down later in the future

FV: Which artist would you like to collaborate with on your album and then tell us something about your album.

KD: Oh the album, it will have about fifteen tracks( might be less and it might be more),and I’ll be doing a collaboration with Junior Tucker, Dj Nichalos and I’m thinking of doing a collaboration with Jermaine Edwards. And there is a next young man by the name of Oniel Campbell and he’s apart of the group they call Uiwais, yes so it’s a lot of collaborations about three and we might just do a song together with the three of us. So it’s looking good. Down the future I believe I’ll be doing collaborations with the biggest artists in this world

FV: Who might that be?

KD: I know I’ll be doing a collaboration with Kirk Franklin -me an ‘im haffi do one song one day, and with Papa San, Judi Mowatt no questions about that.

FV: What do you think of Gospel Music in Jamaica? There’s was article in the Sunday Gleaner saying that Gospel Music is struggling on the airways, how do you feel about that?
