Prison Boots

“Go ahead Sir, here is your condom…enjoy.”

It is funny how the issue of providing prisoners with condoms has died down or become dormant for a while, until human rights activists and other pressure groups realize the potency of the consequences or when the nation is slapped with an increase in sexual offences. I promise not to be long on this but will just point out a few thoughts on the issue.

This superb idea of issuing condoms to inmates will push further the door of buggery and indecent sexual assault in the prison facilities. This would be more than a passport to engage in deviant sexual behaviour. Also, this would take away the rigidity of the prison system as some men only need sexual penetration for their lives to be considered normal, and hence would nullify the purpose of being placed behind bars, which is to deprive him of the privileges he had in society. Even though condoms would not cover much, government should take an active role in enforcing the rigidity of the penal system. If the justice system clamps down on buggery in society, then the same should be done in the prisons. After all, another aim of imprisonment is to rehabilitate, that is, to possibly socialize the inmate, to prepare him again for the outside world where buggery is not only immoral but a criminal offence.

Okay so yes buggery is immoral on biblical standards, and incorrect based on constitutional standards but do you see these men following either.Really now,i mean they were in prison beacuse the defied both don’t you think? The fact is buggery is taking place,it is, it is, it is whether or not you consider it bile inducing. So let us look squarely on the matter rather than shying away from its existense.
Great uproar was made when the statement of issuing condoms were made but people, lose homophobia for a while and consider the health issues involved here.HIV/AIDS is spreading like wildfire and this poses great threat to not only those in prisin but us outside of prison. You see,i learnt recently that more than 70% of criminals spend less than 10 years in prison-you know what that means?they are coming out to get you!
Right so go on and say now that you will not have sex with a former prison inmate, you may not directly……..but.Especially due to the increase hype on promiscuity-you know i had sex with him,and him and him and him(get the picture). But in that and him, and him and him,you may have had sex with someone who had sex with someone, who had sex with someone………who was in prison, who, due to the lack of condoms to-not fully eliminate- but highly reduce HIV/AIDS caught and in that long passge gave it to you!Hmmm… something to think of.
I heard many stories sorrounding Horace Daley’s comment-’him gay’ or ‘him kno peple weh gay’-its all ludicrous. He is a minister of Health so it is his duty to consider these things, because when HIV/AIDS spreads to thousands and he has to find creative ways of building new AIDS hospices etc. he’ll would have thougt, hmm what could I have done.So think on it……
I heard the issue of greater enforcement but that seems long off as well.
My point is,it is happening whether or not we like it,so deal with the issue accordingly.

I never really thought about it that way Georgia… but now that you mentioned it. I guess i was always thinking ‘no, they should control themselves’, but you have really brought up another issue.
Fact is, it is actually happening and based on your stats, majority of the prisoners will return to society, therefore if this is the way, it must be implemented!

OH! Georgia - Is your point from a christian or a democratic perspective? I was trying to abstain from the ‘gay’ column of thought, but since I started I will finish. ‘Gayness’ in and of itself is ‘happening whether or not we like it, so deal with the issue’ sounds as if we are authorizing gayness itself. Also, with that general point of yours…we may deal with ‘other’ immoral issues as well. My contention is this, the government would play a hypocritical role if they issued condoms in prison because they would be implicitly authorizing same sex intercourse…something which is strictly prohibited by law and the society at large. I understand and appreciate your opinion very well because it focuses on the future and sexual connection of those who engage in this activity without knowing the sexual history of their partner. Your point is humanitarian and your foreseability skill is on target…However, principles that are established expressly in the outside world should be expressly stated in the prison world as well with effective enforcement. This prison condom issuing will opening the door of the decriminalization of buggery. And what do you think will the proposing side of the decriminalization of buggery contend? -’Since the government is issuing condoms in prison among ‘men’, then they are supporting the use of condoms among men…and consequently authenticating the decriminalization of buggery.’
Stephen! if that is your reason for implementing the issue of condoms in prison…it seems myopic. Come again!
