FV: And what do you have to say to people who disagree with it?
N: Couple things, one, it’s another medium to deliver the Gospel. I’m not just a Gospel Dj I’m a preacher, but God has also given me the ability to put a message in a song. Construct it in a way so it can ride the rhythm so it can rhyme, it’s like I’m preaching, to me there’s not a great difference its just that I put a melody to it. I put time in, just get a Christian musician build a rhythm- its just another medium to deliver the Gospel, and I’ll leave this scripture with you
“if the works be of men it shall come to naught, but if it be of God you cannot fight against it” so if a God a do it, it ago prosper.
FV: For those advocates of the traditional type of Gospel Music, who think there’s no place for the new era in Gospel Music, who think ‘if we are brand new people, if we are born again, then we are born again, and shouldn’t be doing the same old things. Directly, what do you have to say to them?
N: But where you go you get very technical, cause you say we shouldn’t be doing the same old things. Every Music whether Gospel has derived from some secular kinds of Music, so even the Music that they listen to is derived from some secular format of Music…let me say this much, Gospel reggae is more appreciated by other cultures than Jamaicans- people usually don’t receive their own. Because they grow in an environment where they see it derogatory, and it has been used in so many negative ways they just build this mental concept say that it can never be good. But I would say to them, anytime you say God can use a Gospel Dj, you doubting God. Cause its just like you’d be telling me God couldn’t use Moses rod and part the sea, or God couldn’t use a Ass an speak, or seh God couldn’t make Aaron’s rod bud. If God could do all that why is it impossible for God to use a Gospel dj. So I’d say you doubt God.
FV: How much of an influence did money have in you becoming a Gospel Dj?
N: Bwoy if a did money mi wouldn’t tun Gospel dj, we nuh make quarter a wha a secular man mek, and me have the ability fi go inna the secular industry cause mi sound just like dem. But God has given me my talent so me decide say mi ago use my talent for God.
FV: People always say the church isn’t doing enough. Do you think the church is doing enough re issues like poverty, social issues that affect everyday people?
N: The church is trying, I believe the church can do more especially when it comes to the financial aspect, because if you read the bible the earlier church you had some who had and some never had, and what would happen those who had would share with those who don’t have, but today’s church I don’t really see that happening, you have some people inna the church rich and some people inna the church a dead fi hungry, it shouldn’t be so.
FV: What about you as a minister? How much of an impact are you having?
N: Well I am not in a position where I can help so much financially…as yet, mi a believe God fi dat one day, but what I do is minister alot in the inner-cities … so my contribution as to what happening in Jamaica is speaking and trying to lead people to the truth- mek them know it wrong fi kill yo brother, it wrong fi have sex outa marriage- is just sharing what I know is truth.
FV: But you have a great influence in the society, people in the inner city, people in the middle class, people in the upper class listen to your Music- now don’t you think you could do something more?
N: When I’m in that position
FV: How much of an impact do you think Music can have on our nation?
N: Music can have as much impact as possible- Music can change the nation. So it can be positive and it can be negative it depends pon what you listen to…what is happening nowadays they’re doing more ‘conscious’ songs right now in the secular, that’s good, but conscious songs naw lead you to God- you need Gospel songs. You need songs wha tell you bout God, about having a relationship wid God, a tell bout the things concerning the kingdom. Mi a tell you the truth, reggae Gospel needs more support that’s the truth, were hardly played on secular stations, so it’s just in a growing process but I believe one day it’ll get there.
FV: What is your view on ‘Jesus Party’?
N: Well I have no problem wid Jesus Party. I think it’s a clean environment fi young people go enjoy themselves- I’ve been to most of them. Mi nuh see nuh body a wine up pon noboday-mi haffi talk Jamaican, mi nuh see nuh weed smoking, mi nuh hear nuh badword cussing, mi nuh si a man step pon a man toe and him waan shoot him- it is totally different from a secular environment. Its enjoyment for young people, young people naturally waan enjoy themselves, so you haffi gi them some source, some way fi enjoy themselves in God, so I have no problem with it, once God is in it,.
FV: Your plans for the future
N: Currently I’m working on a project, a album mi waan release before the year finish Gods willing. My desire is not just to be a Gospel Dj but to be a minister, but to minister through the medium- ministering and preaching. I did a one year certificate course at bible school and my desire is to go back and probably do a Bachelors degree in theology- my heart is in ministry.
FV: And to the Yutes dem
N: Mi woulda tell the yout them say, Christians first. You’re called not to be complacent in Zion- your called to be the light of the world. The bible says ‘if the salt has lost its savour wherewith shall it again be salted’. You’re called with purpose, the world need to see us as examples, to look on our lifestyles and to see that there is a God living in us, and so them desire relationship and commitment to God. So we haffi just stand up as much as we can for what we believe in, for Christianity.
And to the unsaved mi would tell him say- ‘if him nuh have God, him no have nothing’, simple.

Yes Mr. Nicholas, i respect u to the max about your comments and also i love your Music. you were at Montego Bay in Faith Temple in August, its was a Blessing to me. im in Miami but as soon as your album hit the streets i have to get it. i’ve being waiting soon long i thought u didnt want to do a album but thank God u did. Dj Nicholas, this man of God is more than an inspiration. He has inspiration me personally to apply certain attributes to my christian life, one most important of which is to know the word of God and be able to apply it to my life in any situation, whether in warfare, dipression, or joy. I personally want to say, and if Minister Eccleston does read this, God bless you man of God, keep on being, “On the Shout”, for the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, and the Conguering Lion of Judah, Jesus Christ of Nazareth. The Lord as truly inspired you to minister to is people. The Music speak for itself. Nuff respect to you. I love your Testimony it has truly been a BLESSINGS. Dj Nicholas, be encouraged brother! In Trinidad your Music gets a lot of air play on the Gospel Stations. The youths love what you doing over here. Keep It Up! Trust me soldier, God has so many blessings in store for you and your Music, just continue to be faithful to him and he will honour that faithfulness. Don’t forget to stay grounded in the word. The first time I hear you was at a fellowship renunion in Mandeville and I have not been able to get enough since that time. Keep up the good work.
